There are many books on the market about advice on becoming an A-student, or books about good working habits. But in this book by IEEE Pioneer Award winner Rainer Storn these types of recommendation are specifically tailored to the needs of the field of science and engineering. This field of study is characterized by a strong mathematical bias, learning material which is difficult to understand, and an intimidating workload that is imposed upon the students. The author of this book, Dr. Rainer Storn, has been at both ends of the studying chain - as a student of electrical engineering, and as a student supervisor and lecturer. Having worked his way up to top level in his studies, and after finishing his doctorate with "summa cum laude," he knows what it takes to achieve peak performance level. This valuable book not only guides you along your path, ranging from fully understanding a subject and memorizing its factual information to being able to deliver in stressful exam situations, but it also covers thesis work and presentation skills, as well as physical health aspects and relaxation needs. This is not simply yet another page-filling guide, but a compact compilation of field-proven inside knowledge and working habits that you need in order to become a top-performing student in science and engineering.
How to Become an AStudent in Science and Engineering eBook Rainer Storn
There is no need for me to become an A-student anymore since I have been an engineer for almost 30 years. However, reading this book gives me many perspectives, which are not only useful for becoming a good student, but also for personal improvement or handling daily life. Many or topics are of general interest to all the people, young or old. For example, the topic on "using the power of the subconscious", "fragmenting the elephant" and “body and soul” are great advices to learn. I also learned from this book that “adults are able to learn a language much faster than children”. This will encourage me to learn some foreign languages, at least useful for travels. Highly recommend it to any readers who want to improve their learning skills, or need advices to handle work stress.Product details

How to Become an AStudent in Science and Engineering eBook Rainer Storn Reviews
Unlike most science academic books, Dr Storn has dug deeply into his long and illustrious scientific career to formalise a truly disruptive and innovative approach to knowledge dissemination and its practical application for current and future student generations. My daughter loves it! Thank you and Congratulations Dr Storn.
Awesome book, helping you to study most effectively and leading you to achieving excellent results. It is specifically targeted at students of science, math and engineering, but I was able to see many parallels which could be universally applied to other fields as well. There’s a wealth of invaluable information here, with tips for anyone who wants to really excel in college as well as the workplace. There’s even a chapter on how to prepare for a job application out in the real world. Great stuff!
“How to Become an A-Student in Science and Engineering” details the many aspects of a technical career that are crucial for success, but seldom taught. This book fills the gaps left by traditional education and tells you the things that your teachers should have told you, but didn’t. For example, there are sections on organization, taking notes and the importance of correctness. Each section has helpful illustrations with tips on how to master the many daunting aspects of a career in science or engineering.
Dr. Storn covers the gamut, ranging from how to write a thesis to understanding to how you can exploit the human limbic reward system. His tone is both positive and motivational. He gives pointers on how to effectively cope with procrastination (one of my personal demons) and how to reduce both physical and psychological stress. His tutorial on how to take an exam has many suggestions to help you optimize your performance. Throughout, he stresses the importance of persistence, mental attitude and learning from inevitable mistakes.
The section on writing a thesis focuses on attention to detail. For example, Dr. Storn emphasizes the need for consistency, completeness, understandability, traceability and unambiguity. His book also includes excellent references for those who want to follow-up on his advice.
Disclaimer I know Dr. Storn personally and he is a consummate professional. His advice is based on his personal experiences as an electrical/electronics engineer. It is sage advice from which we can all benefit. For example, I was recently tasked with developing and presenting a slide show to a very professional audience. It was new territory for me and I found Dr. Storn’s section on presentations to be very helpful.
This book practices what it preaches. It is well organized, concise and eminently practical. It is also quite inexpensive and an investment that is sure to pay off. “How to Become an A-Student in Science and Engineering” gets an “A” from this reviewer.
